What is Reading?
Reading is the process of looking at written words and understanding what they mean. It helps us learn new information, enjoy stories, and improve our language skills.
Why is Reading Important?
Improves Vocabulary: Reading introduces you to new words and phrases.
Enhances Imagination: Stories and books can take you to new places and let you experience different adventures.
Builds Knowledge: Reading helps you learn about various topics, from science to history.

Types of Texts You Will Read
Stories (Fiction):
These are made-up tales with characters, settings, and plots. Examples include fairy tales, mysteries, and adventures.
Poems:
Poems are written in verse and often have rhymes. They express feelings and ideas in a creative way.
Non-fiction:
These texts provide factual information about real-life topics, such as animals, history, or science.
Plays:
Plays are written for performance and include dialogues between characters.
Comics and Graphic Novels:
These use illustrations and speech bubbles to tell a story.
Key Reading Skills
Decoding:
Breaking down words into their individual sounds to read them.
For example, the word “cat” can be broken down into c-a-t.
Fluency:
Reading smoothly and accurately with expression.
Practice reading out loud to improve fluency.
Comprehension:
Understanding what you read.
Ask questions about the text, such as "Who are the characters?" and "What is the main idea?"
Prediction:
Guessing what might happen next in the story.
Look for clues in the text to make educated guesses.
Summarizing:

Focus on the key events or information.
Inferring:
Understanding ideas that are not directly stated in the text.
